The organsing committee for The Queer Studies Easter Symposium to be held
for the third time in Mexico City between the 9 and 14 of April 2009 is
seeking further panelists for a special session/ „sub-conference“
dedicated to „Queering the Theater Stage“ that will take place during
the conference.
This session will explore how „queerness“ is articulated and
represented on the theater stage. Theater has always been a particularly
potent means of capturing queer experiences, even when that experience is
camouflaged, hidden, or submerged. The Committee will consider any papers
addressing issues relating to LGBT/Queer theatre and performance, from any
historical period. Interdsiplinary perspectives are prticlarly encounraged.
Of particular interest are queer readings of expriences in and around the
theater in past decades and centuries. On the theater stage, queer bodies,
practices, and ideologies have for centuries been created, experienced,
and articulated, often in quite creative ways. We are also interested in
papers focusing on cultural performances, performance events, or
performativity in everyday life as well as theoretical work discussing
collaborations of performance studies and theatre studies within the
context of Queer Studies.
We welcome submissions from all branches of the social sciences,
humanities, as well as the arts. Graduate students are encouraged to
participate. Papers will be considered on related themes and topics from a
wide range of perspectives. Presenters are encouraged to interpret the
themes of this session broadly and innovatively.
500 word abstracts should be submitted as e-mail attachments to the
organising committee in English, Castilian, German or French by 25.
January, 2009. The conference languages will be English and Castilian.
