Experience Zipolite with an Enkidu personal Guide

Zipolite is a tiny community which in the last decades has grown up along one of the two nudist beaches in Mexico. It is conveniently located between Puerto Escondido and Bahías de Huatulco, in the state of Oaxaca.

We would recommend visitors to one of these more "civilised" resorts to take a trip to Zipolite and spend a day, at least, there. Zipolite is difficult to describe. The place must be experienced. Zipolite is the perfect place to escape the strains of civilisation and spend some days in harmony and total relaxation. But beware: It is a magical place. There are many travellers who came the Zipolite with the expectation that they would spend a night or two, but ended up making the little community their home. Gloria, a prominent representative in the community, in fact the first pioneer in the area, and the owner of one of Zipolite's classical treasures: The legendary Shambhala is one example. 

The hill where it is build allows the visitor to have a wonderful view and due to the fact that there are no TV nor radio, the sound of the sea is in itself a constant input of energy and inspiration. In addition the inn has a pleasant and bright restaurant full of surprises as there is the option for you to spend one to six months in Shambala in exchange of your helping in the place: whether cleaning or cooking... so sometimes you can find Italian dishes, sometimes French cuisine, etc. and it also offers an inviting ocean view, of course! 

Shambala has an assortment of accommodations ranging from large hostel style dorms, to private rooms and cabanas... or if you are more of the adventurous kind; hammocks that you rent for 20 cents a night and you can sleep with other guests...

Zipolite is located about one hour away from Puerto Escondido's international airport where your Enkidu Personal Guide will pick you up and is easily reachable by bus . The flight takes about 50 minutes from Mexico City.

We recommend also a day tour or perhaps rather a weekend trip to beautiful Oaxaca with its many attractions and sights. For tours from Zipolite to interesting places in the area, Enkidu recommends to rent a car and in some cases a jeep might be preferable. The most fascinating site in Zipolite is probably its Turtle Sanctuary, reachable by foot -walking through Shambala.
